Awesome Mugs!

This MugFinds! post is brought to you by Stephanie L. who submitted this awesome link to me:Awesome Coffee Mug Link!

Check it out and let me know which coffee mug you liked best.

It was a tough one, but I think since I don't like coffee that the following is my favorite:

Have a mugerific day! --I know its not a real word...just go with it.

Yeeehawww!

A few months ago I got this email from my grandparents saying they had a mug for me to post on my blog. I thought oh no, they read my blog?! JK I don't post anything on here that I wouldn't want my family to see. Anyways, they sent me a picture of a mug that they found from a thrift store in Montana. I'm not quite sure what they were doing in Montana (sorry to my readers who live there...you should send me a picture so I know what it looks like) but they were there and they found this mug:

Looks just like any other coffee mug right?

You might be thinking to yourself well why would she be telling this long story if it was just a regular coffee mug. I mean, look at it, its a cowboy hat...that's pretty cool anyways. Wow, I really wish I could meet whoever writes this blog...she is so cool.

Okay, so maybe you didn't think all that but you did want to see the coffee mug.

This my friends is why this coffee mug is on MugFinds! Look at the awesomeness of it!

And if that weren't enough there are angle shots so you can see all around!

Don't forget the feathers in the back, gotta love 'em.

Hope this made your day and made you say, "YEEEHAWWWW"....or something to that effect.

What is the weirdest cowboy coffee mug you have ever seen? Huh huh?!

Fish Tribute

Sorry, once again, for the long absence. I have no excuses this time, just laziness. Thank you to all who have submitted mugs even though I wasn't posting as often.

This coffee mug find is to pay tribute to my fish that died on Halloween this year. :C I have some photos of my favorite fish Westley that I would like to share who loved the coffee mugs in his fish tank:

This is Westley. He was the best suckerfish that anyone could have asked for. Look how cute he is in the coffee cup!

Westley did things like this all the time!!!

This was one of his favorite spots to hang out in the tank. Yes on the handle of the coffee mug. You know if a fish is a perfect match if they have the same interest as you.

Flash forward to today and the new fish that I bought:

Can you believe it?! I couldn't, here we have a Westley Jr.! We have two of these algae eaters (they don't have names yet) in my tank this time around. This makes me EXTREMELY happy.

Since I know you are dying to see my other fish, I'll go ahead and post them.

Here is our Black Molly Fish (Has no name yet)

And I'm not sure what kind of fish this guy is but we did name him Tai Chi in honor of a crab that we saw at WalMart doing some Tai Chi moves in the cornor of the tank. We unfortunatly didn't end up buying the crab that night, went back another night and he was gone! This fish is red and black and so we decided to name him Tai Chi. Tai Chi does like to go into the coffee mugs. :)

And last but not least are our two Silver Hatchet Fish (they dont have names yet) who hang out at the top of the tank. These fish are silly looking, but are cute to watch swim around.

Well thanks for tuning in! I have some mugs I need to upload to here soon, so keep coming back.

How to train a coffee mug

Well first off, the title of this post is a lie. I mean, how can you train a coffee mug? "Here at MugFinds! We don't train coffee mugs, we find them." That is not actually the slogan of this blog either...wow I am full of lies today.

Anyways, this next MugFind is from our one year anniversary, back in June. We took a wine train (get it..like the title of this post?! oh man am I funny!) and on the way back from the winery tour they put you in the dessert cart. Here is the photo I snapped:

As we all know this certainly was not my coffee cup because I don't drink coffee. This was however Royce's coffee cup and his hand. After showing him this photo, Royce has now decided to become a hand model. Best of luck to my husband and his hand modeling career! ;)

Engagment Coffee Mug

No, no I am not engaged again, but this next mug was sent in by someone who is, Hannah R!

Hannah sent in this mug saying, "this one is near and dear to my heart." Aww, sounds like such a cute mug, probably with some good memories too. Well, lets get a looking! And then we will start cooking. Are you good looking? Alright...I'll stop.

Whoa! Did you see that? Take another look at the mug. Still didn't see it, stare at it for another 30 seconds and you're bound to see it.

Okay, I give. There is nothing there but a really cute mug! A by-plane coffee mug to be exact. I love how the mug has a slight bulge all the way around. I bet it feels nice in your hands.

But wait! There's another side.

I am guessing this side of the mug is what makes this so near and dear to Hannah's heart. She was recently proposed to in a hot air balloon! How cool is that?!

Ever think about how a hot air balloon lands? They don't have a landing strip or wheels! Anyways, thanks for tuning in, see you next time at MugFinds!

Coffee in a camera?!

For those of you who know me, and those of you who don't, I love photography as much as coffee mugs. I know it's hard to believe but just go with me on this one. To combine the two together would be complete bliss. And guess what?! They did! You may be asking who is they? The photojojo store of course!

This coffee mug find comes from Brelinda M. and I can't thank her enough for it! If anyone wants to buy this coffee mug for my birthday in exactly one month, but who's counting?!, feel free to. ;)

Whoop! Here it is:

Isn't she a beauty?! Just thinking about this coffee mug in my hand makes me smile.

Because I don't drink coffee, my coffee mug photo shoot, no pun intended, might look like the following two photos:

MmMmM....Hot chocolate!

Or adding a cute succulent inside would serve this coffee mug well.

This is actually a great idea! I should start planting seeds in my coffee mugs! Royce is not a big fan of all the coffee mugs, if you can remember that story, so this would be a great idea for getting them out of the cupboard. Hopefully I'll try this out soon and get back to you on how it's progressing. :)

Thanks again for sending in links and photos of your own MugFinds!

The Office Mug

Picture this...you are sitting at work typing away at your computer when you get this great idea! You ask yourself, "Why don't they make coffee mugs from The Office?!" Well you are a bit too late too late on this idea because they already make such a thing. You go back to typing away at your computer.
[This part of MugFinds! fades out....]

[MugFinds! resumes]
This next mug comes from Megan N. This is the actual coffee mug she uses at work.

I know you are dying to see it because 1. It has to be funny, I mean I already built it up to be a big thing AND 2. I know you can't stand when I draw out things to build up anticipation.

Alright already, geesh! Here it is:

Beautiful isn't it? Was it everything you hoped for? Well I hope it was, because this is the only Dunder Mifflin coffee mug that I have received an image of.

Take care for now fellow coffee mug lovers!

Fiesta Fiesta!

Hello once again!

Sorry for not posting for a while. We just got settle into our condo and other parts of life. :) Anywho, enough about my boring life and more onto exciting things like coffee mugs!

Our next mug finds itself to this blog from Jaime R. This coffee mug happens to be the same type of almost all the dishes in our home....FIESTAWARE!!!! I love it and not just because it comes in bright colors. Oh no, I love it more because of that fact andddd because it runs in my family. The next coffee mug you are about to find was once owned by my Grandma who gave it to her daughter whose husband sent me the picture. Did you get all of that? ;)

Okay on to the fantastic coffee mug!

Tadaa! So cute isn't she?! You may be thinking to yourself at this point, "How does she know that this coffee mug is a she?" Well I don't, but the following is the story I made up:

Once upon a time there was a yellow coffee mug named Daisy who loved to sit on cutting boards. One day Daisy was sitting on the cutting board when all of a sudden there was a loud thump!

THUMP!

And there stood before Daisy's eyes the most handsome cup she had ever seen. Daisy approach the cup. The male cup introduce himself as Johnathan. They instantly fell in love.

It was love at first stack.

The end!

If nature could make a coffee mug

Does nature ever speak to you?
Do you ever feel like it is calling your name?
Do you wake up in the middle of night and ask yourself "What would nature's coffee cup look like if it made one?"

Well, if you said YES to the last question then you're in luck!

I have found the coffee mug that nature made!

SHHHAAAZAM!

Now don't be fooled. This coffee mug is one from nature. And no I'm not just saying that because there is a leaf on it. (okay yes I am)

You caught me, I'm a fraud. But who cares, this is just a blog about mugs. Anywho! Let's get another picture of the mug up here.

Oh how nature can speak to you from this mug. Nature says, "Thanks for using this mug instead of a billion paper coffee cups a year!"

Thanks to Jaime R. for sending this mug in! Keep 'em coming people!

Does this coffee mug have one leaf or two on it? You decide!

Animal Mug

Hello hello!

I'm here with another mug just for your liking. This next mug is probably the first mug I received in college. In fact, now that I think about... It was my first mug in college. Not to be confused with my first mug I purchased in college. Here's the story with this mug:

Growing up, a question adults and peers always asked me is, "What's your favorite animal?" Now my favorite animal has changed over the years but at first it was a frog and later on, in an attempt to be different,a flamingo. This life changing decision of course occurred in middle school. BIG MISTAKE! Well, not a big mistake to like flamingos, but a big mistake to tell your family that you like flamingos. Every Christmas, birthday, and "just for the heck of it," I received a flamingo item. The items I now have consist of flamingo socks, stuff animals and yes...even a coffee mug!

My grandma gave me a matching set of plates, bowls, and mugs when I went off to college. By this time I was so sick of flamingos but could not refuse the kind gesture as these were things I needed. I don't hate flamingos...don't get me wrong, I just hate having a bunch of flamingo stuff that I don't know what to do with!

So here is the infamous flamingo mug!

Just look at that wonderful brown trim...It's so interesting....isn't it?

And now for the close up.

Makes you want to be a flamingo doesn't it?

Needless to say I still have this one mug (I gave the rest of the set away to a roommate who is continuing on to her masters). I love this mug! You can't tell by the picture but it is one big coffee mug and it fits nicely in my hands.

Oh...and now I've moved on to giraffes. So far I have received one metal and one stuffed animal giraffe. Not sick of them yet...but there is still time for that.

So what's you favorite animal? Do you receive a junk load of animal paraphernalia for gifts?

Oops!

Life sure has been changing for me. Work has become more stressful due to my boss quitting three weeks ago and we are in the process of buying a condo! Time sure has been controlled by these two things lately. Sorry about the lack of posts!

All that to say another mug submission has been submitted! This one comes from Shelley C. In Shelley's own words, she calls this mug weird. I don't disagree with her. Ready for it?

BAM! I feel like this mug would be the punchline to a very bad joke like....What does a mug say when a mug falls and hits the ground? OOPS! (show picture of mug to the person you are telling the joke to).

Short but sweet, hope you enjoyed it!

Failure!

I know, I know...you don't have to tell me. I already feel like a failure because I can't keep up with this blog everyday. I think I came to the conclusion that I would rather have posts when I feel inspired rather than make this feel like a chore. Sooo, with that said I am still going to update as much as possible but only when I feel like it. :) Whooo! Sure glad I got that off my chest.

Now on to the coffee mugs!

This next mug reminds me of the next art project I have taken up, making paper look old. So far I have only tried the tea bag trick by making some tea and then smearing the tea bag across the paper. Not too pretty as I just now tried it, oh well!

This coffee mug looks a lot better than the paper I am trying to age.

This coffee mug seriously wants me..wait!!! I didn't mean to type that! I mean, this coffee mug seriously makes me want some tea. And thats the story I'm sticking to.

Another angle shall we?

I love the shape of the handle. No one's hand is shaped like that, but we'll go with it anyways, won't we?

If you could give this coffee mug's color an artsy color name what would you give it? Let's get a conversation going in the comments!
Ex. Frothy chocolate mocha brown.

Icing

This next coffee mug makes me hungry. It reminds me of some kind of baked good with icing on top. Yum... my mouth is salivating just thinking of it. I love the uniqueness of this mug and of the mugs I have been receiving.

This coffee mug definitely looks about the right size for some hot chocolate. I could really go for some now. Is it cold in anyone else's place right now?

Ahhhh, the baked good with icing and right size for hot chocolate coffee mug! What a treat!

Thanks to Jaime R. for sending this one in!

Wonderful Mug

This next mug and story comes once again from Denise M. I love the story that comes from her mug. Denise writes,

"This mug is from our favorite bookstore in Manhattan. Books of Wonder. Best children's bookstore of all time. Period. It's where Meg Ryan works in You've Got Mail. Same place. (she actually worked there a couple of days when researching the role) Store is charming. Books are gorgeous. Staff know all things about every children's book - old and new. When the girls were growing up we wiled away many snowy/rainy/sunny afternoons there discovering wonderful treasures. To get your hands on one of these mugs you had to spend a certain amount on books - then they'd toss one in your bag for free. (well, sort of) Way too easy for us to do. Seems we could never get out of that place without breaking the bank. So, at one point, I think we had around 1/2 dozen of these beauties. Some broke. Some were given away. And the remaining ones I use every day. They are the perfect size, wonderful to hold and simply gorgeous. Looking at them always reminds me of New York, the girls when they were little and how much fun I had reading to them. And how much this tiny store had to do with growing them into the devoted bookworms/bibliophiles they are to this day. I tried to take some close up shots so you can see the great story characters wrapped around it ... all with their nose in a book! The girls tease me because I honestly treasure these things. My absolute favorite."

I too think this mug would be a nice one to hold in my hands and admire. Here are the photos of the coffee mug that Denise described.

This mug is just so cute! It almost makes me what to start reading....almost.

Ninja Coffee

So I decided, if you visit my blog daily you will understand this, that I will not post on the weekend or if I do it will be rare. I know you are crying right about now, SNAP OUT OF IT! :) The reason for not posting on the weekend? I am usually out and about or out of town...which makes it hard for me to make a post.

Let's not focus on the negative and lets get into "Ninja Coffee." So I know you must be intrigued by this. Well let's just say I think this coffee mug might be what ninjas drink out of...

BAM! Look at those ninja stars on the coffee mug! Okay, so maybe the color is off, but hey, a ninja has to relax and not be intense all the time right? So maybe he wants to drink a cup of coffee out of a blue coffee mug, don't judge him!  Let's get a close view of the ninja stars.

Hm... those ninja stars all of a sudden are starting to look like flowers. Let's go with it anyways...a ninja doesn't want to think of work at home. Plus his wife bought him this mug and she doesn't know he is a ninja. There! Problem solved.  Glad we got that out of the way. You may now continue your day in peace.

Thanks to Jaime R. from San Clemente for sending this mug in!

Coffee mug?

Hi All!

This next "coffee mug" comes from a pharmacist I so love and hold near to my heart, my dad. My dad is all about witty jokes that make you say "wah wah wah" after you hear them. Well the only problem with that is the gene is apparently hereditary and I seemed to have received it. But that's a whole other story altogether...not that you couldn't tell from the awesome sense of humor I have.

Oh right! Back to the coffee mug, well here it is:

This is in fact the first submission I received, so I thought I would post it even though it's not technically a coffee mug. My dad would suggest otherwise with the following defense:

"Here is a coffee cup. Ever heard of Irish Coffee?
This is for Farmacyst Coffee:
6oz strong coffee mixed with
1 oz of a secret ingredient pictured .

(disclaimer: THIS is a JOKE !
Before anybody calls the TV show
Intervention)."

Oh Dad, no one will be calling Intervention. But, my readers might start requesting for me to ONLY post coffee mugs and not measuring tools. Okay and to make up for this post not having a coffee mug so far, I will post one now.

If only I would have started this blog a tad bit earlier, it would have been great with all these Christmas coffee mugs. This coffee mug is brought to you by Jaime R. I am sorry I don't have a close up picture of the text, but if you can read it...well you have great eye sight and good for you! No, but in all seriousness it has a cute little inspirational saying.

Okay, must be heading off to work now! Take care all of you and keep those coffee mug submissions coming. You can go into the about section of me and send me an email!

How the Germans make coffee mugs

First off, Thank you all for the coffee mug submissions! I am sadly dwindling down on my own coffee mug collection and I love seeing other mugs! You all are making this possible with your awesome coffee mugs! Yeahhhh!

This next mug and story comes to you from Denise M. She writes, "[This] mug is, I think, from Germany. Many years ago a friend of mine sent 2 of them for Christmas. She was living there at the time and claimed that they were a pretty popular kid item in those parts. On first look, I didn't get it. Pretty and porcelain, sure. But too precious and knickknacky for my taste. As soon as the holidays were over I had plans to pack them away in the basement. But by then the girls had figured out the handles were also straws. Yes. That's right. I said straws! For almost a year the girls would drink from nothing else. I keep them around now because I can't bring myself to banish something that worked so hard for so much love."

And I know the anticipation is killing you all so I will go ahead and post the mug.

Right....about now...

okay, I really will this time.

When looking at this mug, I can't get over that the handle is a straw. What a fantastic idea! I would classify this mug as vintage with functionality. Thanks again Denise M. We will have more coffee mugs from Denise later on along with the wonderful stories that are with them.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Ho, ho, uh oh!

I must say this next mug is one of my guilty pleasures and soon you will see why. I received it this past Christmas from my grandmother with some other goodies too. This mug was well, unexpected to say the least but also very welcomed because it is a coffee mug. And here's the story...

I complained all Christmas because I didn't have any Christmas decorations and hinted in many ways to people that I wanted some. I even made and gave my husband Christmas ornaments for Christmas...I still don't know if he was thrilled to have them as much as I am, but that's besides the point. Anywho, my grandma hands me a paper grocery bag with delightful Christmas decorations ranging from a clock that chimes a Christmas song every hour to a sleigh that has a bear and floral decorations in it. The last thing I happen to pull out of the bag was this:

Does this scream terror to anyone besides me? I feel like Santa would be saying, in a creepy voice of course, "Yesss, Yesss drink my brains, be a little good girl and do it." I don't know why anyone would want to drink out of anyone's head, PERIOD. I don't care how famous you are, it just kind of give me the jitters. This mug should belong to Hannibal Lecter. Needless to say, I still have this coffee mug and it is even on display on the shelf near my front door.

Merry Coffee Mug Drinking to All and to All a Good Day!

The Artic Prevails

Not sure what the title of this post was suppose to mean, but I'm just going with it. This next mug is also part of my collection and came from a thrift store near Sports Arena in San Diego, CA. I remember the day oh so clearly. I walked inside and went straight for the Brick-a-Brack, as I always do, and thought instantly of a nerd when I saw this coffee mug. And here's why:

Okay, so maybe the coffee mug is actually kind of cute, but it still has nerd written ALL over it! Just look at those boxes, one could definitely be graphing and figuring out derivatives in there. And the penguins..don't they remind you vaguely of Tux, the Linux penguin? (please forgive me for knowing that, but I'm currently using Ubuntu.) I guess the question I should be asking is who is the nerd now, the mug or the person who owns the mug and can name nerdy references?

But in all seriousness, this mug is DYNAMITE! Anddd, if you scroll through the pictures really fast it is a little stop motion film.

Rounnnnddd 2

The sad thing about this next coffee mug is that I can't think of a story that goes with this coffee mug...So, I'll make one up.

This next comes to you from when I traveled the seas. Back then I was a crab trapper and would be out at sea for months at a time. Arrrggggghhh! It was a nice sunny day it was when I baited my trap and threw it overboard. A day later we circled back and to my surprise not only were there king crabs in my trap but also a hermit crab who had a coffee mug as his shell!

So here you have it, the coffee mug that once belonged to a hermit crab.

I think the crab has nice taste and picked a good "shell," don't you? Let's take a look at this one to see the design on the other side!

Now this is probably the side of the cup that crab fell in love with.

Goodbye for now. argggghhhhh (just had to get it in one last time)

Update:
Just in! Someone requested that this story should have included Sebastian, from The Little Mermaid, with the song, "Sip the Girl!"

ALSO!! I added my email address to the about me section of the blog. Keep sending in those coffee mug pictures!

First Mug Post!

Hey everyone! Welcome to Mug Finds! a blog about unique mugs!

So maybe you think I'm
crazy because I love mugs but hate coffee, but that's alright. Here's my story on how I got hooked on mugs...I was introduced to thrift stores when I was in high school but was not too fond of them because I thought it was weird (and kind of gross) to use something that had already had a previous owner. Don't get me wrong, I have an older sister who I had hand me downs from, but to have some clothes or other things from a person I did not know kind of scared me. Anyways, back to my story. In college I was encouraged by my boyfriend, now husband, to go shopping with him at thrift stores. He is the thrift store king and can find anything but I am not so lucky and always end up at the Brick-a-Brack section searching for something worth buying. Mugs always caught my eye and finally one day I bought one...and then another and then another. To make a long story short--flash forward to when I get married and my husband tells me I can only keep ten mugs. JUST TEN MUGS?! I dreaded the thought of this, but then thought I could make a blog and record all the mugs I find but can't buy. Thus this blog is created. Da da da da! (royal noise..get it?)

I am excited today because I photographed my mugs to post them on this blog. So here goes, one of my favorite mugs that I own.

Ahhhh, isnt she a beauty? This was the first mug a purchased in college back in '05. But to really appreciate this mug let's get a close up of her, shall we?

Just makes you want to visit Hawaii huh? Well..maybe not..oh well.

Anyways remember to send in any unique mugs that you find! Signing out for the first time! Yeahhh!
